Best laptops for photographers, engineers, students

Shopping for a laptop can be extremely frustrating at times. Even when you already know the ins and outs of personal computers, there are so many different aspects to consider with laptops. Weight, battery life, and cost come into play right off the bat, and when you factor in specific work requirements, the number of decisions can be more than a little overwhelming. Thankfully, we’ve already done the legwork for you. If you’re on the hunt for a new laptop, look no further.
In these round-ups, we break down exactly what’s important when you’re buying a new laptop, and offer a handful of recommendations. Whether you’re a college freshman looking for a deal, or an engineer looking for a portable super computer, we’ve got you covered here, so let’s jump in.
HP Zbook 15

Best laptops for engineers (best mobile workstations)

Whether you’re designing complex structures in AutoCAD or crunching data in R, engineers need as much horsepower as possible. If you want to work efficiently on the go, you definitely need a machine with a beefy CPU, a discrete GPU, and RAM to spare. These portable workstations are certainly on the pricey side, but being able to get real work done away from your desk is invaluable.
MacBook Pro with Retina display, running Final Cut Pro

Best laptops for video editing

While video editing has traditionally been relegated to massive desktop machines, laptops have become increasingly viable alternatives in recent years. Quad-core CPUs and surprisingly powerful GPUs are easily found in modern high-end laptops, and with the introduction of Retina-caliber displays, you’ll be able to see every little detail even when you’re away from your 30-inch monitor at your desk. Add in loads of RAM and a super-fast SSD, and video editing laptops will do well by any editor.

Best laptops for photo editing

If you’re out shooting and editing photos in the field, you definitely want to have a powerful laptop by your side. Obviously, you’ll want fast storage and lots of RAM for managing high resolution images, but there’s more to consider. You’ll need to see every nook and cranny in your photos, so a nice big display with high pixel density will make your life a whole lot easier. But if the added cost and heft don’t fit your lifestyle, there are some damn fine ultrabooks available as well. Whether you’re a budding amateur or a seasoned pro, there’s definitely photography-compatible laptop here for you.
Lenovo T430

Best laptops for business

Too often, employees get stuck with underpowered laptops, but that doesn’t have to be the case. If you’re in charge of your company’s IT purchases, or you’re in a position to pick your own work laptop, you can snag some outstanding hardware for under $1000. These affordable business laptops certainly aren’t going to run Far Cry 4 on ultra settings, but these are rock-solid machines with shockingly reasonable price tags.
Dell Inspiron 15

Best laptops for college students

Laptops are extraordinarily popular on campus, and it’s easy to see why. Taking notes, quickly accessing your body of academic work, and easily collaborating with your classmates is very enticing. But before you buy any ol’ machine, you need to consider the weight, battery life, and asking price. There are definitely trade-offs to be made between those three factors, but this selection of college-appropriate laptops should cover just about any student.

A laptop for everyone

Whether your budget is $300 or $3000, there’s a laptop here for everyone. High-end production machines and low-cost workhorses alike, picking out the right laptop is all about finding the right balance for your needs. CPU, GPU, RAM, display, battery life, weight, bulk, and price are always going to be pulling at you in different directions. Even with an unlimited budget, there’s not a single laptop to fit every single lifestyle. So read through these round-ups, take your time weighing your specific needs, and you’ll be more than ready to buy when the time is right.

Microsoft unveils Windows 10 holographic technology

Microsoft had its Windows 10 event Wednesday and announced the latest features and devices, which include a free upgrade to Windows 10, the new Surface Hub display and the HoloLens.

Microsoft unveiled the new Windows 10, a new Surface Hub display and holographic technology at its live Windows 10 event Wednesday in Redmond, Washington.

The biggest announcement at the event was a new hologram device called HoloLens. The new head gear is a holographic computer that requires voice and hand-gesture commands for use. The computer is completely wireless and runs on Windows 10 software. Users will be able to perform basic phone functions, watch TV and design and create objects — such as spaceships — and 3-D print them.
Microsoft's hologram labs will also develop and release a holographic Skype and holographic Minecraft in the future.

11 ways to manage and clear space on your iPhone

YOUR iPhone is full of junk you don’t need. And a recent class action lawsuit against Apple has brought to light that even if you buy a 16 GB iPhone, you can’t actually use all 16 GB of storage.

So let’s try to make the most of what you have. We have identified 10 simple ways you can manage and clear space on your iPhone:
1. Check your usage
First thing: Find out what’s taking up the most space on your phone. You may have some unexpected storage hogs.
Open the Settings app then go to General > Usage > Manage Storage.
At the top, you’ll see how much space you’ve used and how much you have available. Below, there’s a list of your apps ranked by how much space they’re using. (It will take a minute to load.)

2. Beware of apps’ internal downloads
The numbers you see in Manage Storage include how much space the app itself takes up combined with the data inside it. Some apps are small by themselves but can store a lot of files.
For example, the Spotify app is only 56 MB. But if you have a lot of music downloaded to your phone, the app takes up a ridiculous amount of space. I have about 800 songs downloaded, which takes up about 2 GB.
You can tap any app icon in Manage Storage to see the app size versus the downloads within it.

3. Delete those unused games
Many gaming apps are small, but there are some that can take up more than 1 GB of space because of 3D graphics. Oregon Trail, for instance, uses 1.2 GB.
You may have some old games hidden on your phone that you’ve either finished or don’t play anymore. Angry Birds? 2048? Candy Crush? Go ahead and delete them. You can do that within Manage Storage by tapping on the app.

If you ever want to play them again, you can always re-download them from iTunes. But, no, your score won’t return.
4. Remove old podcasts and videos
All those Serial podcasts ... are you really going to listen to them again? All right, I wouldn’t judge you, but a 30-minute podcast can be 25 MB. So if you have a bunch of podcasts downloaded to your phone, they can really add up.
Apple’s Podcast app sorts which ones you have played at the bottom of each list. Just swipe left on the individual podcast to delete.

Same thing goes for videos — an even larger space invader. Swipe left and tap delete within the Video app.
5. Set your messages to automatically expire
With iOS 8, you can now automatically delete older messages. If you like going back through old messages, don’t go this route. But do you really need those conversations after a year? This option is much easier than manually deleting old threads.
Go to Settings > Messages. Under Keep Message, select 30 days or 1 year.
If you’re not sentimental about your texts, give them a time limit. Picture: Kerry Flynn

You can also adjust how long your video and audio messages are stored. You can set them to expire after two minutes, or never.
6. Use Google+ or Dropbox for storing photos
You might not want to take all your photos off your phone, and you don’t have to. But you can save space by having your photo library back up automatically to a cloud storage system.
We recommend using the Google+ app because not only does it give you an unlimited amount of storage — for photos less than 2048 x 2048 pixels (which covers anything you’ll be taking on your phone) and videos less than 15 minutes long — but it’s also free.
You can keep your photos online and still have phone access. Picture: Kerry Flynn

All you have to do is download the Google+ app, create a Google account if you don’t have one already, and select Auto Back-Up under the app’s Settings. Be sure to select to have it back up Over Wi-Fi Only so you aren’t charged for data use. You can also use Dropbox (instructions here) or Apple’s iCloud.
7. Stop using Photo Stream
Your iPhone’s Photo Stream automatically syncs your last 1000 photos across your iOS devices. But that means it’s storing 1000 photos — about 1 GB — twice. So unless you need to share your photos from your iPad to your iPhone all the time, turn it off.
Under Settings, scroll down to Photos & Camera and toggle off My Photo Stream.
You probably don’t need all your photo synched. Picture: Kerry Flynn

8. Only save HDR photos
If you have your photos automatically backed up and are deleting them (see Tip 6), that should no longer be your space hog. But you may have noticed that your phone can store two images of the same photo. That’s your phone using HDR (High Dynamic Range). See the difference here:
Life looks better in HDR. Picture: Kerry Flynn

This will happen if you have HDR on Auto or selected as always On. The camera setting is best for capturing images in low light or with shadows. If you choose to shoot in HDR, then you don’t need to keep the normal photo as well. Go to Settings > Photo & Camera. Scroll to the bottom and deselect Keep Normal Photo.

9. Sign up for a streaming music service
The days of storing all your songs on your device are over. Download the albums you love, and stream the rest.
If you’re devoted to iTunes, sign up foriTunes Match. For $25 per year, you can have every track in your iTunes library accessible via the cloud. You can download any song or album directly to your phone by tapping on the cloud icon next to it.
Even downloading is over. CD-fans, catch up. Picture: Kerry Flynn

Or, if you want to have access to a larger library, consider the music streaming service Spotify.
10. Explore the “Other” section on iTunes and restore your phone
The “Other” category, shown in your phone’s storage on iTunes, includes your email, music and web-browsing data. Sometimes the files can get corrupted and take up more space than they should. The easiest way to clear this out is to back up your data and restore your phone on iTunes.

11. PhoneClean
If all of above options do not create sufficient space for you then this step would definitely do.   Search and Install the PhoneClean on your PC and connect your iphone to it. And Run Clean process. This will definately clean 500-1500 MB space on your iphone depends upon different circumstances. PhoneClean is not free but you can easily find its key on internet. So, it would be free for you :-). I used it and got around 1.2GB space free from my Iphone 4S.

London’s leading concert venues ban selfie sticks

BOSSES of London’s leading concert venues have banned “selfie sticks” over fears they block the view of the stage and could injure other gig-goers.

Staff at top music halls including Wembley Arena, the O2 Arena, and Brixton Academy will refuse to allow entry to any reveller carrying the telescopic photography aid.

It comes amid reports of some gig-goers suffering injuries from the use of selfie sticks in a packed crowd, and fears they block out the view and ruin the performance for other fans.

A spokesman for the O2 Arena tells NME.com, “the O2 do not allow selfie sticks into the arena due to safety considerations. We welcome selfies, but please leave the stick at home”, and a representative for Wembley Arena adds, “The sticks might mean you are refused entry to the venue so our advice is don’t bring them and stick with the tried and tested use of an arm.” A spokesman for Brixton Academy, which has been voted Britain’s best gig venue 12 times in 20 years, says, “Selfie sticks are not permitted at Academy Music Group venues. This is in keeping with our existing policy that prohibits the filming and photography during a performance with iPads and other tablet devices and includes any such obstructions for the satisfaction of other customers.”

Real Madrid Ready to Adopt Lionel Messi in September 2015

For Messi Contract Update and othe breaking news follow @LoveCuteHearts on twitter

Lionel Messi conflicts with Barcelona are at their heights. Specially Barcelona not backing Messi up on some Spanish tax issues has made situation even worse. Messi has also shown some explicit actions that he is willing to leave Barcelona.

"Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are the clubs that have the financial backing and the profile to attract a player of his stature. However, the question they will be asking themselves is 'can we spend 200 million pounds, plus his wages and stay within the financial fair play (FFP) rules?'

"Manchester United and Real Madrid are in prime position because of their business model and financial structure that provides them with the additional income required to stay within FFP limits and sign Messi."

Messi could take up to six months to negotiate and would have to be carefully structured. He said: "In this current market, I don't think there is a club that would pay the transfer fee in one single payment.

Real Madrid last year posted record revenue of 480 million pounds. From television alone they earned almost 110 million pounds, because La Liga has no collective agreement and the big clubs are free to negotiate their own deals.

Two years ago they also signed a new shirt deal with Emirates that was 30 percent more lucrative and have also announced plans to redevelop the Bernabeu, which would increase commercial opportunities and led to rumours of a lucrative naming-rights deal.

There is little doubt that Madrid could afford Messi, but the big question remains: would he want to do a Figo and make the leap to the Spanish capital?

Firefox gets free video chat, and it works with Chrome

While Mozilla has been experimenting publicly with the Firefox Hello project for months now, the recent stable release of Firefox 35 brings this feature into the limelight. Smack dab on the menu bar resides a happy little chat icon, and clicking it allows you to start a new video call. From there, you can sign into your Firefox account to manage your contacts, but that’s an optional step. Without signing up for anything, you can start a chat, and simply send an invitation URL to anyone you’d like. They click the link, and the video conference begins. It’s shockingly easy to use, and that’s the real innovation here.

Microsoft, Apple withdraw from Android patent trolling

The patent wars — or patent trolling, depending on your point of view — originally started to heat up in the 1980s, as the Information/Digital Age began to gather a lot of inertia. Patents weren’t originally designed with software in mind, and they’re also not very good at responding to periods of rapid innovation. As you can imagine, this in turn meant that patents were rather ill-suited to protecting the innovations of tech companies that were quickly becoming very rich and powerful. At some point, these companies (or their lawyers) realized that patents were a great way of stymieing the opposition or extorting them out of a few million dollars.

After years of relentless litigation, it seems the mobile/smartphone patent war might be drawing to a close. Rockstar, a patent trolling company owned by Apple, Microsoft, Sony, Ericsson, and BlackBerry, has agreed to cancel the lawsuits it had filed against Google and most Android device makers. Rockstar will also sell off its remaining patents (some 4,000 of them) to a company called RPX, which has promised to license the patents to anyone who needs them for defensive purposes. This follows on from news this summer that Apple and Google had agreed to drop all lawsuits between the two companies, and Apple and Samsung agreed to drop all lawsuits outside the US.

Bitcoin price plummets as investors flee the currency

Bitcoin prices have been taking a beating since the new year, but today the bottom fell out of the market altogether. After debuting at $314.59 on Friday, January 2, the currency fell to $267 by Monday, Jan 12. Then, in the past 36 hours, prices fell completely off a cliff, with the currency currently priced at $178.67 at CoinDesk.
Currently, there’s no explanation for the enormous price drop over this short period of time, but the ripple effects are already hitting miners. Mining hash rates dropped precipitously initially, and while they’ve since risen again, they’re still well below early January rates. The problem, for Bitcoin, is simple: there are prices at which the majority of mining operations are not possible.
In the beginning, it was GPUs that drastically increased BTC mining capability and kept the operation profitable, followed by FPGA and ASICS. As more and more people bought ASIC miners, operations began to shift further, from private residential complexes to huge cloud networks. These large-scale mining operations managed to further reduce costs by centralizing operations and paying lower utility rates.

Cricket Legend Imran Khan Marries Ex-BBC Journalist

Islamabad:  A close aide to Pakistani cricket legend-turned-politician Imran Khan says he has married a former journalist for the BBC.

Sherin Mazari says the couple tied the knot in a simple ceremony on Thursday at the politician's farmhouse on the outskirts of the capital.
His bride, Reham Khan, was a weather reporter for the BBC and now hosts a political talk show on Pakistan's Dawn News.

Imran Khan was previously married to British socialite Jemima Khan and has two sons. His new wife reportedly has three children from a previous marriage.

For some weeks, there has been chatter about the politician possibly remarrying but it was not confirmed until Thursday.

Pakistani television showed photos of the couple in a formal Pakistani wedding attire following the ceremony.
